The heater core and all parts for the HVAC on both sides of the firewall are off. I also removed the windshield wiper assembly.

The windshield is out.  It was a lot easier than the rear window – it helps to have the proper tools for the job.  I bought a tool that has an angled blade and also has a cable attached so I could guide the blade with one hand and pull with the other.

The steering column, dashboard, and most of the wiring including the fuse panel came out today.

With the help of Lily (my 5 year-old daughter), I removed all the instruments and other controls from the dashboard.

I removed the starter and transmission cable.  If I take the transmission out with the engine, I think I have everything unbolted and ready to go.

I removed the driveshaft and the rest of the exhaust.  I also checked the power window motors by hooking jumper cables to the battery in my van and then to the window motor.  Both windows go up and down quickly so I won’t need to spend any money on new motors.

Spent ab0ut 2 hours cutting out the passenger side floor. I cut less than I should have – figured it’s better to have to cut out more than to have a hole that is too big for the new floor pan.  There were plenty of sparks flying and some leftover bits of a mouse nest started smoking.

I removed the water pump and power steering reservoir/pump.

Today, the carb, fuel pump, and AC compressor came off.  The carb was full of water.

I bought a set of 4 15×7 snowflake wheels on eBay for $181. Spent about 30 minutes just seeing how well they will clean up. Looks like with very little work, they will shine nicely.
